MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) utilizes magnets and radio waves to capture images of the body. A 3T MRI machine delivers twice the magnetic strength of a standard 1.5T MRI giving radiologists enhanced and more detailed images.

The province has approved funding for the acquisition of a 1.5T MRI for KGH. Recognizing the significant benefits of the faster 3T machine, the KGH Foundation is raising the $5 million needed to acquire the additional unit and help build the infrastructure to house it. It would be the only 3T MRI in the interior.

Wednesday, May 17th marked the seventh annual KGH Day of Giving a one-day call to action to inspire all who desire world-class diagnostic health care, right here at home, to give. And the community stepped up in a huge way, raising just shy of $800K to help bring a 3T MRI to KGH.
