The last thing I remember was Don saying, don’t worry Brad, we’re going to take you to the best place you could possibly go for something like this.

I never thought it was a heart attack. But luckily for me it happened right beside an ambulance station where my good friend, Don Hagan, is an advanced care paramedic.

After coding 5 times and CPR being performed for an hour and 20 minutes, the decision was made to place me on the new ECMO machine. ECMO serves the function of the heart and lungs outside the body. Basically it allowed my heart to rest and recover. Two days later I woke up, my wife and my sons by my side.

My story is one of good fortune and the incredible dedication of the medical teams who saved my life.
