Jim graduated from UBC in 1955 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked for Crown Zellerbach Canada Ltd. in Vancouver and Conklin Lumber Co. Ltd. in Kingsville, Ontario until 1971. He then formed Eccott Building Supplies Ltd., a company operating three building supply yards in the Okanagan Valley. The company was sold in 1975 to Revelstoke Companies Ltd. Mr. Eccott became an independent lumber broker until he joined Diamet Minerals in 1992. He was President and CEO until 2000 when DiaMet was sold to BHP Minerals Ltd.
Jim has served on the Board of DiaMet Minerals Ltd., Canadian Airlines International and Del Roca Energy Ltd. He was also the Chairman and Director of Northern Air Support Ltd. and a director of Sun-Rype Products. He is presently on the Board of Directors of Canterra Minerals Corp.
Mr. Eccott has completed a six year term on the UBC Board of Governors and will soon have completed a six year terms on the Board of the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation. He is looking forward to working collaboratively with his fellow directors as a member of the KGH Foundation Board.
